Meet the “Masters of the Beach” at Cobourg’s International Pinnacle award-winning Sandcastle Festival. The festival is celebrating its 13th year on Saturday, August 4th featuring master sculptors from all over North America.

The Sandcastle Festival is an open celebration with a live DJ on the beach, a Kid’s Zone, sand sculpting lessons with five-time world champion Karen Fralich and an Inflatable Fun Park that includes two giant slip and slides. Wristbands are available for purchase at the registration tent for $5 and give unlimited access to the Inflatable Fun Park. Wristbands will also give participants access to the inflatables at the Downtown Cobourg Sidewalk Sale on Saturday.

The evening is set to end with a movie on the beach ‘Sherlock Gnomes’ concluding with a fireworks show. The public can view the sand sculptures for free all weekend.

“It’s wonderful to see our beach transform during our Sandcastle Festival every year,” said Councillor Suzanne Séguin. “Talented sculptors from all over Ontario create the most amazing art in the sand and the Town of Cobourg is proud to share this festival with the thousands of visitors who come to see it.”

New this year will be a live entertainment special beginning at 10 a.m., 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. on August 4th provided by the very entertaining Mark Sepic, or “The Nutty Music Professor”.

Open to aspiring artists of every skill level the Sandcastle Festival is designed to encourage everyone to participate including businesses, youth, adult, and families. Interested sculptors can register online at www.experiencecobourg.ca or onsite at the registration table on Saturday, August 4 that 8:30 a.m.

All sculptors are asked to pay $5/person and all teams have a chance to win cash prizes within each category and the coveted event title. Sculptors are given a team flag and a 20’ x 20’ space to design within. Using only the existing sand and water the competition will begin at 10:30 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m. with an awards ceremony held shortly after at 4:30 p.m. at the DJ Booth.

The Sandcastle Festival has been recognized countless times as one of the most well-known and respected festivals and events within the province, Cobourg’s Sandcastle Festival placed among this year’s ‘Top 100 Festivals and Events in Ontario’ (FEO). The festival has also been internationally recognized, receiving the Pinnacle Award with the International Festival and Events Association.
