Mayor Gil Brocanier welcomed 2018 on a very high note looking back at the achievements of the past year and forward towards 2018 plans.

Achievements included that there were 10 new bus shelters added to the bus routes, the Waterfront Study had 2000 responses (they had not seen this level of engagement before), The Town’s economic department released a report to attract more businesses, and Town Council announced a communication plan to greater the connectivity for whats going on.

Plans for 2018 consists of the Mortgage for Northam Industrial Park will be paid off in March. This will make the Park an even better source of revenue and jobs. Venture13 will be completed in April. Police from Venture13 will gross $2M revenue per year with their business services. The Waterfront Study report will be released in the first quarter. The Mayor said that it’s important since “there is only one opportunity to get it right”.

There was also a presentation made by the Cobourg 2017 Committee recognizing Canada’s 150th birthday celebrations. The committee was co-chaired by Nicole Beatty and Peter Delanty who both spoke about the effort and thanked those who contributed. The Mayor placed his old Chain of Office in the Time Capsule and will bury the capsule filled with memories of the year in the Floral Clock at Victoria Park in the spring and it will be opened in 50 years.
