At about 4:20 AM on Sunday June 11, 2017, officers from the Cobourg Police Service were dispatched to Ontario Street in regards to a serious assault.
Officers determined that a 28yr old Cobourg man had been assaulted, struck in the head with a weapon. The victim was transported to hospital, then later air-lifted to Sunnybrook hospital in Toronto.
Ontario Street was closed for a part of the day on June 11, 2017 to protect the crime scene. This allowed evidence to be protected and then collection was done by the Ontario Provincial Police Identification Unit.
As a result of the on-going investigation, 18 year old Baylee Macfarlane, of Cobourg, has been arrested. He is charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
A second male accused is currently being sought. A warrant of arrest has been issued for a 20 year old male from Cobourg, Brody James Redick, wanted for aggravated assault and assault with a weapon and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
