“The Ontario 55+ Games was extremely successful” said organizers of the three-day, multi-sport event. The only one of its kind in the province for the 55 plus age demographic the games saw participants compete in over 10 winter sports. The Ontario 55 Winter Games, first held in Collingwood in 2000, are hosted on odd numbered years and are held in February with approximately a thousand participants. The Hon. Elizabeth Dowdeswell, 29th lieutenant-governor of Ontario, took the time to meet Cobourg’s leaders and community members during her first official visit to the community. Dowdeswell took the time to be part of the opening ceremonies and be part of a reception to open the games. On Wednesday night the town held the Middle Night Mingle to provide the opportunity to celebrate the phenomenal participants of the Games and to show them what a great community we have in Cobourg. King St was closed off to vehicular traffic so that participants and locals could roam freely downtown Cobourg to enjoy shopping, great food and entertainment.
